Ottawa Forklift Training Programs

Ottawa Forklift Training Programs - If you are searching for a job as a forklift operator, our regulatory-compliant lift truck training programs offer excellent instruction in numerous styles and types of forklifts, classes on pre-shift check, fuel types and dealing with fuels, and safe utilization of a lift truck. Practical, hands-on training assists individuals participating in acquiring basic operational skills. Program content covers existing rules governing the utilization of lift trucks. Our proven forklift programs are intended to offer training on these types of trucks: powered pallet truck, narrow isle forklift and counterbalanced forklift.

How to Safely Handle Loads

Do not lower or raise the fork while the forklift is traveling. A load must not extend higher than the backrest because of the possibility of the load sliding back in the direction of the operator. Check for overhead obstructions and ensure there is plenty of clearance before lifting a load. Stay away from overhead power lines. Once the load is lifted straight up, tilt it slightly back.

When the load is raised the lift truck would be less stable. Make sure that no pedestrians cross under the elevated fork. The operator must never leave the lift truck when the load is raised.

The forks must be level when handling pallets, and high enough to extend all the way into and underneath the load. The fork's width should provide even weight distribution.

Before loading or unloading the truck, set the brakes and chock the wheels. Floors must be strong enough to support the weight of the load and the forklift combined. Fixed jacks can be installed in order to support a semi-trailer that is not coupled to a tractor. The height of the entrance door should clear the height of the forklift by at least 5 cm. Edges of docks, rail cars and ramps should be marked and avoid them.

If there is not proper ventilation into the forklift, do not stay in there for long periods. The interior of the truck must have enough lighting and be obstruction free. Inspect the forklift cab's flooring for holes. The installation of nonslip material on the floor would help prevent slipping. Clear whatever obstacles from dockplates and docks and ensure surfaces are not oily or wet.

Lift trucks should not be utilized to tow or push other forklifts.
